Introduction, Conclusion

Compared to »a report of a substantial event », a »notebook » is a more specific, restricted kind of essay. Usually, an essay is a literary piece of writing that presents the author’s argument, but the scope is somewhat vague, often overlapping with that of an article, a letter, a paper, an op-ed, a novel, and a brief story. Essays typically are sub-divided into casual and formal. A formal essay is academic in character and is composed on a particular subject and is intended to be read by a professor or other qualified individuals. On the flip side, a casual essay is typically written for a personal audience and may not be read at an academic level, even though it might be read in its entirety with a professor.

Unlike fiction, essays are designed to convince the reader to take a position or react to a debate. A good example of a descriptive essay is an article defending a belief that flatulence exists. The article may be written from the perspective of a physician who treats individuals with flatulence. The physician’s arguments are based on research and scientific information, not on hearsay or speculation.

The style of a composition is nearly as critical to the quality of the composition, as is the content itself. The tone of the writing should be collaborative and listen keenly to the reader. This means that the writer should let her or his ideas to flow naturally instead of having them dictated to her. The author’s arguments need to be well supported with facts and resources. The article shouldn’t simply regurgitate facts and sources, weaving them together to support 1 position.

Essays could be categorized as either argumentative or descriptive, depending on the kind of the writing and also the perspective of this writer. Argumentative essays use facts to support a specific claim, while a descriptive article utilizes primary sources to corroborate its main purpose. The gap between both of these types of essays is somewhat academic, though it doesn’t have much effect on the grade of these essays. Most students find the terms simple enough to distinguish.

Among the most significant pieces of an essay is the introduction; this is the point where the article’s thesis is suggested. The introduction is the part in which the author introduces his or her argument. It should be clear, concise and persuasive. The focus of the introduction will be to engage the reader and set up the primary idea of this essay.

In the end, the conclusion is the part of the essay where the author expresses his or her opinion regarding the thesis statement. The purpose of the conclusion would be to convince the reader that the thesis statement is accurate. Most admissions essays comprise at least one strong opinion in their conclusion. Whether a composition includes a solid opinion or not is largely a personal decision; it is however an important part of the essay.
